3 Meet-Ups via Zoom sessions (May, June, July)

(Dates TBD - follow-up to be sent once registered)

Who should attend? People interested in being involved in health-related projects in their community should attend. Master Wellness Volunteers are youth and adults working in equal partnership to make long-lasting changes in the community. Current areas of focus where we are seeking volunteers to assist in community-based projects include: nutrition; school and community gardens (includes planting and education); mindfulness and wellbeing.

What does the training entail? The training for Well Connected Community Master Volunteers is 40 hours of a combination of online and experiential learning.  Each volunteer is asked to choose a track that they would like to specialize in, and will receive specific training that includes some experiential activities which could include shadowing an agent, attending a community meeting and co-presenting.

Core Content:

- Extension 101

- What is a Culture of Health

- Understanding Data

- Health Equity

- Behavior change theory and models

- Cultural Diversity

- Youth and Adult Partnerships

- Finding Reliable Data on the Internet

Volunteers will be able to engage with community partners based on their areas of interest, and are required to provide 40 hours of service each year.

What are the areas of interest?

1. Master Food Educators: Volunteers interested in teaching nutrition topic classes at partnering organizations such as libraries and community centers should enroll in this area.

2. School and Community Garden Coordinator: Volunteers who want to be a point of contact for a fruit and vegetable garden at a partnering site from start to finish should enroll in this area. These volunteers will work with interested sites by assisting with the development of a garden management team, assessing the garden site, planting, harvesting and connecting with food safety, nutrition education and recipe development/produce distribution.

3. Mindfulness and Wellbeing Educator: Participants in this track are those interested in being trained to teach a mindfulness series at a variety of locations, including schools and libraries. Additionally, individuals interested in participating in coalition meetings on behalf of Extension and working on projects related to healthy living should enroll in this area.

Questions regarding training should be sent to Gina Crist at gcrist@udel.edu.
